MAS*H Cast Members Official Websites

I can’t remember now what got me started thinking about official websites but yesterday evening I spent a few minutes searching the Internet for official websites for members of the M*A*S*H cast. Alan Alda has a website that focuses on his two autobiographies, with excerpts, essays, reviews and a photo gallery. Jamie Farr also has a website, one that is apparently relatively new, where you can read stories, watch videos and look at pictures of his life and career in television, on stage and in film. Mike Farrell has an officially unofficial website, run by a fan with Farrell’s “approval and full cooperation,” according to its disclaimer. That’s really it. I found a site called Swit Hearts that appears to be authorized by Loretta Swit but there isn’t much content. And Kellye Wallett, better known to M*A*S*H fans as Kellye Nakahara, has a website dedicated to her art and the Kellye Wallett Studio.

As far as I can tell, Wayne Rogers, Gary Burghoff, Harry Morgan, William Christopher and David Ogden Stiers do not have official websites, although both Burghoff and Stiers have unofficial fan sites.

“Aid Station” Goof

I’ve been aware of this goof for years but until Maggie e-mailed me earlier this week I had more or less forgotten about it. In “Depressing News,” Hawkeye is seen wearing bright blue shoes while walking with B.J. towards the numerous piles of boxes filled with tongue depressors. I can’t identify the shoe but Maggie suggests it was an Adidas shoe popular in the 1980s. This could be considered an anachronism, given that the shows weren’t made until long after the Korean War ended, but I think it is more of a goof.

Jamie Farr at the 1980 Miracle on Ice

The hockey game between the United States and the Soviet Union played on February 22nd, 1980 in Lake Placid, NY as part of the 1980 Winter Olympics is considered one of the most incredible sports stories of all time. The underdog U.S. team beat the Soviets and went on beat Finland to win gold. ESPN put together the following retrospective to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the game. One of those interview is Jamie Farr, who attended the game. Start watching around 0:55 to see Farr in the stands. He talks about his experience again at 1:55 and 6:00 and maybe at other points during the video.

Sports fans may want to watch the entire video. M*A*S*H will probably only be interested in the Jamie Farr segments as something of a curio. Thanks to Shawn for e-mailing me about this video.
